The research at the Institute of Semiconductor Physics is focused on low dimensional semiconductor heterostructures. In particular molecular beam epitaxial growth of silicon based heterostructures, quantum wells and super lattices as well as their lateral pattening is studied. Furthermore low dimensional magnetic structures based on IV-VI compounds are investigated as well. Fundamental studies on the molecular beam epitaxial growth, on structural, electronic, optical and magnetic properties of heterostructures are carried out.
Apart from basic research the institute is involved in applied research like new concepts for quantum well infrared detectors, the realization of heterobipolar transistors.
