Original Kurzfassung:
Investigation of enzymatic hydrolysis conditions on PET properties
Recycling of poly-cotton textiles.
Challenges:
Current recycling processes:
? Cotton: Mechanical & chemical processes established
? Polyester fibre: 15% recycled material; 99% thereof from mechanical processing of bottles ? open loop recycling
Poly-cotton blends:
? Mechanical recycling process of cotton not applicable
? Chemical recycling processes of cotton not applicable
? Fibre to fibre processing of polyester not well-established
Therefore, further research is needed for the recycling of polyester and material combinations
Aim of the work:
? Investigation of the enzymatic hydrolysis process on the polymer properties on pure polyester and polyester-cotton-blends:
? Assessing the impact of each process step on the molecular weight using intrinsic viscosity measurements
? Producing fibres from polyester fractions and assessing the mechanical properties of the recycled material
? Assessment of the impact of variation during the process and further post-hydrolysis processing
