Original Kurzfassung:
The progressive digitization of all aspects of human life has led to the development of different labels that try to explain the observed digitization phenomena. This has led to the development of different concepts in the logistics industry in order to apply the digitization phenomena in practice.
A systematic literature study was carried out as part of this thesis to get a comprehensive understanding of digitization phenomena and to understand what similarities and differences they have. Furthermore, it was examined how they affect current trends in and influence the future of the logistics industry. Additionally, an application was developed to test the applicability of concepts and methods described in digitization phenomena to solve operational problems.
Five different digitization phenomena and a model on how these build on one another were identified. Furthermore, three different approaches related to the logistics industry implementing these phenomena were identified. The prototype has shown that it is possible to solve operational problems and to improve processes using solutions and methods of the investigated digitization approaches and that cross-organizational cooperation and integration is possible because of it. The main discovery of this thesis is the absence of a defined nomenclature within computer science and the scientific community regarding the investigated digitization phenomena. Interesting approaches have been discovered with regard to the logistics industry, but their practical feasibility remains to be seen. The prototype has shown that established methods can bring significant benefits if used correctly.
