Precipitation of lithium carbonate in a gas bubble column with carbon dioxide

To gain valuable insights into the occurring reactions of the precipitation process of Li2CO3 in a bubble column with CO2, a simulation was to be performed first. This was achieved by adapting available software, which calculated the behaviour of aqueous cupric ions and ammonia, for simulating of the precipitation of Li2CO3. This allowed for the investigation of the behaviour and yield dependency of the reaction system. The resulting data was then to be compared with calculated data were then compared with the real-life experiments. For the set of experiments, a setup was to be chosen where the gaseous carbon dioxide can react with the alkalic lithium solution to form the solid lithium carbonate. As mentioned above, utilization of a bubble column allows for adequate reaction between gaseous and liquid mediums. In the context of this work two different experimental setups were used to be compared with results originating from prior simulation.
