Original Kurzfassung:
At the 'Microelectronics Institute' a radar distance measuring system operating from 34 to 36 GHz is currently being developed. The device is intended to work with sub millimeter resolution over a range of a few centimeters at a distance of 500 mm. To achieve this goal a well defined measurement spot is required, giving rise to the need of a spot focusing antenna system. We chose to use a corrugated horn equipped with a dielectric lens for this purpose. In this paper the basic operating principles of corrugated horns and the necessary design steps for the horn-lens combination is presented.
