Original Kurzfassung:
The problem of estimating the radial velocity of moving targets with respect to a measurement device occurs in various applications. As a solution, Doppler Radar in combination with a Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) for spectral estimation is a common choice due to the ease of implementation and sufficient performance for many applications. However, the limitation in spectral resolution inherent to the FFT requires a different approach to estimate the frequencies of multiple superposed sinusoids measured at the output of the Doppler module for high-precision applications. During the last decades, a variety of spectral estimation algorithms has been developed, several of which are discussed in this paper, applied to measured Doppler Radar data, and evaluated with respect to precision of the acquired velocity estimates.
