Original Kurzfassung:
We report on the comparison of different modelling approaches for the calculation of pressure drop and capturing efficiency of wet scrubbers. Different modelling approaches are compared ranging from simple algebraic correlations to one-dimensional analytical models and further to three dimensional numerical simulations in order to determine the minimum model complexity that is needed for realistic predictions of pressure drop and separation efficiency.
Depending on the type of wet scrubber and the needs regarding accuracy of the prediction, different models are more or less suitable. We show that for simple Venturi scrubber geometries a one-dimensional model can provide very accurate results for the calculation of pressure drop at very low computational costs. Furthermore we show that for the prediction of dust capturing efficiency a more complex three-dimensional CFD model is necessary to get accurate results.
