Nuclear magnetic resonance is a spectroscopic technique that probes the environments of atomic nuclei. I will show how differentially charged paramagnetic co-solutes can be used to experimentally probe the electrostatic field around proteins, including intrinsically disordered proteins. In addition, I will demonstrate how backbone amide hydrogen exchange is sensitive to protein electrostatics.
