Polynomials and Poetry: Aspects of Creativity in Mathematics
Sprache des Vortragstitels:
Mathematics is a key technology in modern society. Indispensable applications e.g. concern computer technology, in particular, algorithms in connection with AI. The talk discusses a somehow opposite theme, namely, aspects of mathematical creativity including connections to arts (e.g., poetry, painting). Examples range from the work of Kepler to the mathematics of Ramanujan applied in quantum field theory. The talk is directed to a general mathematically interested audience; a German version of it has been presented recently as a contribution to the "Forum Mathematics", a reach out initiative of the Technical University of Vienna.
