The term "digitalization" has expanded beyond its original meaning of converting analog data into digital formats. It now refers to the transformation of nearly all aspects of society through the incorporation of digital technologies. However, this shift in meaning has led to a loss of conceptual clarity, with a diverse set of buzzwords like automation, virtualization, datafication, and agilization being used to describe the process. The promises and fears associated with digitalization often bear little relation to actual practices in organizations. We present a future research project that explores the narratives and practices of the digitalization of work. We aim at exploring narratives, practices and participation options in the digitalization of work in four sub-projects, IT, senior care and pharmaceutical industry, accompanied by a historical analysis, using Practice Theory as our main method of data collection, mostly through semi-structured interviews.
