Continuous casting as the main steel production process has continuously evolved in terms of efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Utilizing magnetic fields to control the liquid steel flow in the mould region is widely used to improve this process. With combined static magnetic fields, the molten steel flow can be controlled independently in the jet region and at the mould top surface. The strength of each field can be set independently, according to the casting speed and the flow condition. In this study, two sets of local electromagnetic fields with the same strength but in the opposite direction are combined to control the surface and jet velocity. The results show a reduction in surface and jet velocity under the impact of this combined field.
