Original Kurzfassung:
In this talk, I will present an overview of the results of theoretical considerations on nanostructures, mainly various types of semiconductor quantum dots with atypical geometry leading to unusual properties. These include vertically stacked InGaAs/GaAs double quantum dots (QDs), strongly in-plane elongated InAs/AlGaInAs QDs, or flat "layered"/truncated dots in matrices lattice-matched to InP. We calculate the eigenstates of carriers and their complexes as well as their optical properties based on the k.p method combined with the configuration-interaction approach. We also study orbital and spin relaxation and decoherence processes due to interaction with acoustic phonons.I will also try to briefly outline my activity regarding the transport properties of small systems, such as matrices of phosphorus donors in silicon.
