In my commentary on Richard Kozul-Wright I follow up on two statements. Firsty, we need a serious reform and a new rules-based system at the international level. A "new Geneva Consensus" is needed that creates the basis for a socially inclusive and ecologically sustainable development. Secondly, neoliberalism is nothing natural. The way to a free trade order with multiple bi-and multilateral free trade agreements, investment treaties, liberalized mining codes and investor-state dispute settlements was anything but straightforward. In my commentary I recall the "Geneva School of neoliberalism", excellently researched and described by Quinn Slobodian, and, drawing on Polanyi`s movement - countermovement metaphor, I will turn to the critical junctures in the struggle for a (new) global economic order and ask who today are the allies for a ?new Geneva Consensus?.
