Original Kurzfassung:
The prediction of warpage is essential to achieve the desired product quality and compliance with prescribed tolerances of short fiber reinforced injection molded polymer components. However, the consideration of the viscoelastic behavior of thermoplastic polymers is significant for accurate results. Moldex3D was used to investigate the effect of viscoelasticity in the warpage simulations in this research study. A methodology for the modeling and simulation of the warpage behavior plus its validation was developed. The validation was performed on a benchmark test component and experimental 3D scans. It was shown that the proper characterization and description of the viscoelastic behavior is vital. Simple elastic models were found to be insufficient to describe the correct warpage behavior.
