At first this paper gives a survey on some outcomes of an EU-Project called RichODL (Enriching open distance learining by knowledge sharing for collaborative computer-based modeling and simulation). One goal of this project was to build up an internet based course on modeling and simulation of dynamical systems. Beside some software tools that were developed for the course a short introduction into the theoretical background will be presented. Finally an overview of our latest developments in this area is shown. Especially a link between Matlab and Java which can be the basis for a disributed simulation and control environment.
