In practice many manufacturing processes are carried out under non-isothermal conditions, under high pressures or under flow. High pressures are able to accelerate the crystallization process due to an increase of the melting Temperature Tm and improve the crystal morphology through alignment of the polymer chains.
For the detailed investigation of the influence of pressure on the crystallization rate of semi-crystalline polymers at production-like pressures a pressure-dilatometer was applied. For exploration of the influence of pressure on the crystallization in situ, the pressure was continuously applied and released in every experiment.
All shown experiments were carried out with pressures between 77 and 500 bars, at a temperature of 140 °C.
