We present cradle to cradle as a specific form of eco-innovation that offers a new value proposition
and requires radical rethinking of product?service systems. The challenge not only
rests in a company?s research & development or knowledge processes, but also in the collaboration
with partner companies throughout the value chain, including the end-of-life. We argue
that absorptive capacity offers valuable insights into the knowledge and innovation processes
that lead to cradle to cradle product innovation and formulate a preliminary research framework
of the cradle to cradle product innovation system.
