Original Kurzfassung:
In the single screw plasticizing unit of an injection molding machine the preparation of a melt cushion during
the plasticizing process, with both a good thermal and optical homogeneity is a challenging task. Thus it is common to
use mixing heads to improve the melt homogeneity in the screw chamber. However, due to the complex flow patterns in
mixing heads the optimization of the mixing head geometry with respect to its mixing ability is cumbersome. In the
presented work a DOE (Design of Experiment) study has been performed to analyze effects of geometry variations and
processing conditions on the mixing ability of a so called Shear-Mixing-Head by means of CFD methods.
