Within the scope of a longitudinal evaluation study on COoperative Open Learning (COOL) carried out by the author the learning success of students should be assessed. As commercial competences are central for the investigated type of school (Handelsakademie, HAK and Höhere Lehranstalt für wirtschaftliche Berufe, HLW) there is need for adequate assessment instruments. However, there exist hardly any suitable instruments, so that a pretest of an internally generated inventory consisting of typical exercises from accounting-schoolbooks of the first school year had to be conducted on second-grade students of vocational colleges. This paper presents early results of this attempt.
