Original Kurzfassung:
Multifunctional polymeric materials play an important role in solar energy technologies. While in photovoltaic modules polymeric materials are widely used for the embedding and encapsulation of silicon based PV cells, polymeric materials and components are currently under development for active and passive solar-thermal systems. A main component in solar-thermal collectors is the transparent insulation allowing for incidence of solar radiation but also providing thermal insulation. The prime requirement for transparent insulation materials is spectral-selectivity with high transmittance and high absorbance in the solar and infrared wavelength range, respectively. In this paper polymeric materials based on renewable and fossil resources are investigated and characterized as to the prime property requirements. Therefore advanced spectrophotometric measuring and modelling tools were implemented and used. To establish structure-property-correlations also microscopic methods were applied. The investigations revealed that multifunctional polymeric materials based on renewable resources fulfill the prime requirements better than fossil fuel based materials.
