Original Kurzfassung:
This contribution is concerned with the analysis and active rejection of a vibration phenomenon in (steel) cold rolling mills, which is also known as chatter. Based on a mathematical model of a multi-stand rolling mill it is shown that, in dependence on the operating point of the plant, an internal mechanical feedback can lead to an instability of the dynamic system, which explains (third octave) chatter. For active rejection of chatter a control concept based on the theory of differential flatness considering the essential nonlinearities of the system is presented.
