Original Kurzfassung:
The structured organization of motion in visual scenes is highly informative for our everyday perception: we recognize people by the way they walk, track objects through occlusion or predict hazardous situations from the traffic flow. Yet, little is known about the mental computations underlying the perception of such complex, nested motion relations. I present ongoing theory-driven research demonstrating that human visual motion perception shows hallmarks of Bayesian structural inference, and that humans can exploit identified motion relations as structured priors when solving demanding visual tasks.
