Rationale:
The session will address how green growth and circular economy offer an opportunity to reinvent our economy, making it more sustainable and competitive. In that sense, innovative and efficient processes and materials can clearly help to achieve the objective of the Circular economy Strategy. Ambitious examples and representative measures to reduce the use of resources and waste and to boost green growth will be provided by different industries (i.e. steel industry by-products, CO2 valorisation, industrial bio-systems, etc.). A special commitment will be allocated to assess how different industrial sectors can work together to enable cross-sectorial Industrial Symbiosis so they can become more efficient and sustainable and to the first-ever Europe-wide strategy on plastics, adopted this year 2018, that will become a key part of the transition towards a more circular economy. Moreover, some examples of potential new market communities as those addressed by OECD from circular economy will be presented.
