Original Kurzfassung:
Ablation procedures are a gold standard in the treatment of severe cardiac arrhythmias. They rely on the advancement of a catheter in the patient circulatory system and the elimination of the cardiac arrhythmogenic tissue by exposing it to either high temperatures, induced by an alternate electrical current (RFA - radiofrequency ablation), or very low temperature (Cryo ablation). More recently novel strategies emerged that rely on the application of very short pulses of direct current (PFA - pulsed field ablation) that induces the death of the arrhythmogenic tissue by electroporation. Computational modeling can be an important tool to improve the effectiveness of the procedure and reduce its associated risks, as well as to support the design of novel tools and protocols.
Regardless of the procedure, the computational modeling of ablation treatment is a complicated, naturally multiphysics and multiscale task. The workshop aims at combining the experience of modelers and medical doctors to enhance the effectiveness of computational models and improve its clinical and investigational applicability.
