Mechatronics makes use of the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering/electronics and information technology in the design of successful products. The integration and interaction of these disciplines in the design process set mechatronic systems apart from other multi-disciplinary systems. The increased complexity of mechatronic systems, resulting from the positive interaction of system elements from various disciplines, makes it necessary to use an adequate design methodology. With its help it is possible to determine the functionality and performance of a solution at an early stage of the mechatronic design process and to reduce development time. It should be pointed out that the mechatronic design process is different from other development processes because it involves many closely-coupled engineering disciplines.
We see this 1st Workshop on ?Mechatronic Design? Linz 2012 mainly as an excellent chance to promote new ideas of Mechatronic Design to the attendants, their organizations, and even beyond.
