A design procedure for linear single input, single output (SISO) discrete time control systems is presented leading to controllers which minimize the l-inf. - norm of the system tracking error due to certain classes of reference input signals and disturbances respectively. Furthermore an additional constraint posed on the l-inf. - norm of the plant control input is met by the overall system. The design method is based on the well known factorization approach. Selecting finite impulse response (FIR) transfer functions for the design parameters leads to a linear programming problem which can be treated by standard software.
