Mitral valve stenosis in patients after previous
aortic valve replacement can be a challenging condition. The
gold standard remains the open surgical re-operation. In elderly
high risk patients alternative approaches may be warranted.
Although there are several options for transcatheter mitral valve
replacement only few are suitable for mitral stenosis. One of the
devices which could be used is the Edwards Sapien S3-Ultra and
Sapien S3 balloon-expandable valve (Edwards Lifesciences,
Irvine, Ca, USA). A circumferential Massive Anular Calcification
( MAC) is typically required in a native mitral annulus.
