It does not happen very often that there is a chance to analyze the introduction of a brand-new subject. When Austria implemented the mandatory curriculum ?Digital Education? in September 2018 for all students in lower secondary education, digital literacy finally found its official way into additional grades. The curriculum covers digital competences, media competences, as well as civic education. Schools can decide if they offer stand-alone subjects or if they implement the curriculum in an integrative way in several other subjects. This paper reports on first experiences with the new curriculum by evaluating a survey conducted approximately two years after the implementation. Aiming to do so, the qualitative data were interpreted, summarized, and discussed, while the quantitative data were analyzed in former papers. The study was sent to 133 local public schools, whereas 117 teachers were willing to complete the questionnaire and 39 filled out the comment section. The following research questions lay out the basis for the evaluation of the qualitative data: 1) How do teachers manage the implementation of the new curriculum? 2) What is the teachers' opinion on the current situation? The results we present in this paper suggest that there are still people who fight with the new subject and that there are various problems that have to be tackled. Still, the attitude towards the current situation of the new curriculum is very positive.
