Original Kurzfassung:
The in-plane torsion test of sheet metal offers the possibility to achieve higher equivalent strains as compared to corresponding uniaxial tensile tests. Therefore it has been successfully applied for flow curve determination as well as calibration of kinematic hardening laws. In addition it also enables to determine fracture strains in pure shear. However, the tests have so far mainly been conducted in an academ-ic environment. Application of the in-plane torsion test in an industrial environment requires revisiting the reported test setups as well as measurement and evaluation procedures. Next to the issues of sample geome-try and preparation, especially the strain measurement as well as the calculation of flow curves need to be-come robust procedures with minimum user interaction. A further challenge is the planned application for a broad variety of materials, from mild steels to ultra-high strength steels, in thicknesses ranging from cold to hot rolled products and different surface conditions and coatings. Recent advances with respect to an exist-ing setup are presented and remaining challenges are discussed.
