In diploid organisms, most loci are present in two copies per genome, with some exceptions, such as most of those on sex chromosomes in the heterogametic sex, and those encoded in the mitochondria. For these genomic regions, typing polymorphisms immediately yields knowledge of haplotypes, or the genetic variants that occur on the same chromosome, and which were inherited from the same parent. This haplotype information has valuable applications in many areas of biology. Thus, this book provides detailed haplotyping protocols for a broad range of questions, samples, budgets and resources.
