A Straight composite beam under the actionof lateral forces is considered. A pizeoelectric layer isused to control the excited motion of the beam.A nonlinear initial-boundary-value problem forthe deflection is derived, which is approxiametd by a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The controllerdesign is based on the Hinf-design for AIO-systems by extending this method to the case of Hamikltonian AI-systems. A special solution of the Hamilton Jacobi Isaacs inequality is presented for the case of a single input insgleoutputsystem. Finally numerical simulations show the good behavior of the proposed control system.
