A straight composite beam under the action of a lateral force is considered, where piezoelectric layers are used as actors and sensors to control the excited motion. A nonlinear initial-boundary-value problem for the deflection is derived, which turns out to be an infinite dimensional Hamiltonian AI-system with external inputs. The controller design is based on the hinf. - design by extending this method to the case above. An exact solution of the Hamilton Jacobi Isaacs equation is presentd for a special single input single output system. Numerical simulations show the excellent behavior of the proposed control system.
