An Action Model for Business Strategy Creation in IT-related SMEs

Original Kurzfassung:
SMEs often do not have a business strategy document. For the sake of clarity and transparency about the strategic alignment, every organization should base its decisions on a business strategy. Due to the fact that in an IT-related SME the CEO commonly has hardly any business education — but a technical background — we present an action model for business strategy creation to mitigate this problem. The
purpose of using our action model is the creation of a high-quality business strategy document with low effort. The illustration of the action model is carried out with a
modeling language (EPC), commonly used in IS project management. Hence, CEOs in IT-related SMEs are familiar with this language which increases the likelihood of its adoption.
