Noise Predictive DFE for Single Carrier Block Transmission with a Cyclic Prefix

In this work we expand our previously presented single carrier transmission scheme with frequency domain equalization (SC/FDE), which exhibits some similarities to Hiperlan/2-like OFDM systems, with a decision feedback block. The proposed structure deploys low complexity FDE in the feedforward part and time domain noise predictive decision feedback equalization (NP-DFE). NP-DFE decouples the feedforward and the feedback branch, which allows us to add decision feedback to conventional single carrier block by block transmission with a cyclic prefix. Our results indicate that hard decision feedback rather decreases than increases the performance of an SC/FDE system in combination with channel coding.
