Universities increasingly face the demand to seek cooperation both national and international. Thus presentation of a universities' research efforts via World Wide Web seems to be indispensable. This fact has been also recognized at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz a few years ago. A project was started to realize a central research database holding information about departments and institutes, research projects and publications. This information should be on the one hand made available to the public via Internet and on the other hand maintained decentralized by the universities departments via an Intranet. This paper presents the experiences gained in the course of the realization of this system called JKU-FoDok.
