Original Kurzfassung:
Notions of similarity and neighborhood play an important role in many fields, e.g. statistics, classification, data mining, information retrieval, neural networks, etc. Similarity is a property two objects may have or may have to a certain degree. Certain groups of similar objects within a given data set can be classified or two objects can be compared in order to determine their degree of similarity. Common properties of two objects can
be expressed by binary relations. While crisp relations indicate the existence or the absence of a relationship, fuzzy relations also determine the degree of such a relationship. Depending on certain properties these relations have, they have already been considered for modeling similarity. Three of them, namely equivalence relations, T-equivalence relations and tolerance relations will be examined.
