Original Kurzfassung:
The project concerns the development of novel, efficient and accurate space-time finite element methods, for producing numerical simulations for incompressible non-Newtonian fluid flows, modeled by p-power-law Navier Stokes systems, (p-INS). The discretization of p-INS is of great importance since they are met in many industrial processes, e.g., chemical engineering, biofluid mechanics, etc. Among the various realistic situations involving p-INS models, we focus on applying the proposed numerical scheme for simulating haemodynamic flow problems. The blood has complex mechanical properties and it has nature of non-Newtonian fluid. The p-INS model is often used for describing the non-Newtonian properties of blood. During this project, we aim at producing blood flow simulations in realistic geometries, i.e., geometries extracted by medical images. In this case, we will collaborate with the Medical Informations group of RISC Software GmbH company.
