The ?new economic geography? required the development of tools giving valid spatial analyses. We intend to complement this toolbox by providing new statistical techniques for estimation, validation, diagnostics, forecasting and data collection. This research is motivated from real applications, like regional convergence or spillover studies, crime estimation, rainfall and temperature predictions, etc. The investigations cover both discretely and continuously indexed random fields and spatio-temporal processes. We intend to service the community by supplying openly available computer coded solutions. Spatial applications can be found in the environmental as well as the economic science. Thus the project can be attributed to both research priorities Sustainable Development and Transformation in Finance and Financial Institutions.
