Title:Analytically-Based Optimization of SMPM Machines for Sizing Validation PurposesAuthor(s):Silvio Vaschetto,  Gerd Bramerdorfer,  Andrea Cavagnino,  Alberto TenconiAbstract:The paper investigates the potentialities of integrating analytically-based sizing design schemes into sophisticated optimization algorithms to opening the way for optimization scenarios already in early design stages. In particular, when a tentative torque is required in a constrained gross volume, the adoption of finite element analyses for the investigation of large scenarios is not affordable. The study considers as a case study an outer rotor surface mounted permanent magnet machine for more electric engine applications. The original design of the scaled size prototype was performed using the proposed analytical tool. However, the initial design has been done considering precautionary values for the thermal and magnetic constraints to face the challenging cooling system imposed by the application. Now, starting from the experienced prototype design, the authors intend to investigate with the optimizer if potential improvements in terms of torque density are achievable.Booktitle:IEMDC 2019, IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference, San Diego, CA, USAPage Reference:5 page(s)Publishing:5/2019
