Title:Secondary cooling: roll heat transfer during dry castingAuthor(s):Mirko Javurek,  Peter Ladner,  Josef Watzinger,  Peter Wimmer,  Guoxin ShanAbstract:Low cooling water flow rates and dry casting are required for certain steel grades in order to achieve a high slab surface temperature. In this case the heat transfer through the roll due to contact and radiation influences the slab surface temperature and the temperature of the roll. On the one hand, the roll surface temperature shall be high in order to achieve a low cooling impact; on the other hand, the roll surface temperature has to be limited in order to obtain a long lifetime of the roll. Additionally, it is important to precisely predict the slab surface temperature in order to obtain the desired product quality. Mathematical models with different complexity and performances are presented to calculate the slab and roll temperature. The validation of these models is performed by comparison with each other. Some results that enhance the optimised construction of dry casting machines are presented in this contribution.Booktitle:Proceedings 2nd METEC ESTAD Conference 2015Editor(s):VDEhPage Reference:8 page(s)Publishing:6/2015
