Title:Numerical and Experimental Modeling of a Multiflux Static Mixer for Continuous Extrusion of Layered Polymer BlendsAuthor(s):Thomas Köpplmayr,  Jürgen MiethlingerAbstract:We present a numerical and experimental investigation of the polymer flow in a multiflux static mixer. Various multiphase models and simulation methods are compared in terms of layer homogeneity. To evaluate the layer forming process in different geometries, we applied a general and precise approach based on trajectory calculations for a large set of material points, followed by a statistical analysis. Further, we developed an experimental setup that allows continuous extrusion of different polymers. Masterbatch materials including black and white pigments were used to study the formation of layers at the die outlet, and the effect of viscosity and rheology of filled polymer systems on layer formation was investigated.Booktitle:Proceedings of the 14th European Conference on Mixing, Warsaw, PolandPublisher:Committee on Chemical and Process Engineering of the Polish Academy of SciencesEditor(s):Working Party on Mixing of the European Federation of Chemical EngineeringPage Reference:page 217-222, 6 page(s)Publishing:9/2012
