Original Kurzfassung:
Many functional elements have been demonstrated in organic electronics, including transistors, inverters, as well as integrated circuits. Yet, reliable storage elements are missing. Organic field-effect storage devices are based on using electrets and ferroelectric polymers. However, low voltage operation of such nonvolatile storage elements is still missing. Flash memories are the most succesful nonvolatile data storage media in microelectronics. In organic electronics flash memories have been missing, due to the difficult preparation of sufficiently dense dielectrics, facilitating charge storage in floating gates. In recent work, hybrid dielectrics based on aluminum oxide and self assembled monolayers have been found to be suitable materials for producing floating gate elements and arrays. Such memory arrays can be, for example combined with organic sensor arrays in large area organic electronic platforms. The talk provides an overview of recent advances in organic memory elements, arrays and circuits.
