Original Kurzfassung:
For a good quality of continuously cast steel slabs, it is essential to have a quiet mould level. The mould level control hast to react as fast as possible against various disturbances as unclogging and mould level hunting. A precise mathematical model of the mould level behaviour in reaction to the stopper-lift is very important to design a good closed loop control. Response time, wave formation, and wave propagation significantly influence the dynamics of the closed loop control. Standard con-troller designs neglect all these effects, therefore the controller law is usually simple and the control-ler parameter adjustment is based on experience. Instability due to surface resonance waves limits the controller performance. In this publication, a mathematical model based on theoretical consid-erations is presented. Transient numerical simulations of the 3-phase flow steel-slag-air in the mould, water model experiments on a 1:1 scaled model and corresponding simulations of the 2-phase flow water-air are presented.
