This talk reports on an action research cycle aimed at investigating an attempt to increase students? reading volume in English within the framework of a freshmen university English course (B2). Students were asked to read a minimum of 10 current, authentic newspaper or magazine articles, interact with the texts in ways that appear meaningful for them, and reflect on their learning experience. The success of this ?reading package? as regards students? confidence as readers of authentic texts (measured primarily by student questionnaires) will be shown, as well as the changes that are deemed to be necessary in future courses after an analysis of the insights gained.
