Original Kurzfassung:

Englische Kurzfassung:
In order to determine the relative merits of different kinds of fuels from an ecological point of view an extensive assessment must be made. Such a comprehensive assessment of fuels should
1. take not only the end-uses but also the production, conversion and transport of energy into consideration
2. evaluate all of the various kinds of environmental stresses which result from the energy use (emissions of air pollutants, of greenhouse gases, water pollution and solid waste products).
The evaluation procedure developed and discussed in this contribution tries to fulfill these requirements according to the availability of relevant environmental data.A conrcete example is given by a comparison of rape oil methylester (RME) with fossil diesel fuel.
